Bernice Amelia Sims, 101, of Derwent passed away Wednesday (April 11, 2018) at the home of her son.
She was born May 3, 1916 in Buffalo and was the daughter of the late Belford "Doc" and "Estella" Bessie (Calvert) Waddell.
Mrs. Sims was co-owner of Sims Royal Blue Market in Derwent with her husband Marlowe for 32 years, and retired in 1978. She was a lifetime member of Derwent United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of United Methodist Women and a graduate of Buffalo High School.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Marlowe who passed away September 10, 2000; one daughter Sharon Lucas; daughter-in-law Gail Sims; six brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by one son James "Jock" Sims of Derwent; four grandchildren, Krista (Wayne) Shriver, Todd (Heather) Lucas, Wendy (Craig) Campbell and Dustin "DJ" (Aline) Sims; five great grandchildren, Ethan, Heath, Lane, Grace and Ben; a son-in-law Bob Lucas of Derwent; a brother–in-law Jack Atkinson of Senecaville.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 12:30 ~ 2:00 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Debbbie Gheen. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens.
