Bonita Belle (Bates) Erwin, 90, of Akron and formerly of Pleasant City, passed away Monday (March 18, 2024) at the Akron General Hospital.
She was born March 24, 1933 in Old Washington, daughter of the late Raymond Bates and Lucy (Treadway) Bates.
A 1952 graduate of the Buffalo High School “Bisons”, Bonita retired from NCR after many years of service.
She was a member of the Doylestown United Methodist Church.
Bonita enjoyed square-dancing with her husband, Jack, and was a member of the Curly Q’s of Caldwell and the Swinging Buckeyes of Cambridge. She loved boating and skiing on Seneca Lake, as well as taking fishing trips to Canada throughout the years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Erwin, who passed away July 11, 2001. They were married March 10, 1966. Also deceased are three brothers, Roland Bates, Kary Bates, and Dan Bates; and two sisters, Wanda Huffman and Nancy Ball.
Bonita is survived by her daughter, Renee (& Bill) Frantz Jr. of Akron; a step-son, Jackie (& Dena) Erwin of Michigan; a step-daughter, Connie Evener of Montana; a sister, Floanne McCall of Clinton; two grandchildren, Brad (& Sara) Albaugh of Akron and Matt Albaugh of Akron; three step-grandchildren, Jessie, Jennifer, and Andrea; four great-grandchildren, Sicillia, Blake, Gavin, and Jack; and many nieces & nephews whom she loved as her own.
Visitation will be held Friday (March 22, 2024) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Mercer officiating.
Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, at a later date.
