William Sheldon Savage, 85, of Byesville, passed away Saturday (February 17, 2024).
He was born October 6, 1938 in Cambridge, son of the late Walter Savage and Evelyn Mae (Jeffries) Savage.
A graduate of John Glenn High School, William retired in 1990 from Ecconex after more than twenty years as a truck driver. He had also worked on the railroad for several years.
He formerly attended Harmony Christian Church.
William was a US Navy veteran, having served from 1957 to 1961.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs, as well as fishing. He also enjoyed his Sunday visits to the nursing home singing gospel music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Rochester) Savage, whom he married April 6, 1958 and who passed away December 30, 2008; a daughter, Tammy (Savage) McElroy, who passed away August 18, 2017; a brother, Jack Savage; and two sisters, Bonnie Brill and Mary Jamiel.
William is survived by two sons, Mike Savage of Byesville and Jeff Savage (& Michelle Castner) of Byesville; two daughters, Dee (& Tom) Dearth of Vincent and Missy (& Dave) McCombs of Glen Burnie MD; five brothers, Bud (& Marjorie) Savage, Jim Savage, Gordon Savage, Tom Savage, and Ted Savage; a sister, Shirley Stalnaker; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday (February 21, 2024) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Bell officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
