James Lee (Pin) Smith, 51 of Salesville, Ohio, peacefully crossed over to Heaven on Wednesday (June 13th, 2018). Cancer may have taken his body, but not his larger-than-life, fun-loving spirit. Cancer lost that battle and he will live on in Heaven free from pain.
He was born in Cambridge on February 11th, 1967 and was the son of the late Donald “Speed” Smith and Sandra Smith of Lore City.
In addition to his father Jim was preceded in death by two uncles, Bryce Smith, Roger Smith; cousin Robbie Smith; faithful pet dogs Bud and Taz.
He is survived by his wife Angie; step-daughter Amanda Bagley of Byesville; step-son Brian (Amber) Bagley of the home; granddaughter Emilie Simmons; his mother Sandra Smith of Lore City; brother Don Smith of Cambridge; and sister Misty (Dave) Stillion of Kipling. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of dear friends. He also leaves behind his dear pet dog Cooper.
Jim grew up in Lore City and attended the Methodist church there in his youth. He was a 1985 graduate of Meadowbrook High School in Byesville. He worked at Detroit Diesel for 19 years. He was a member of the Kipling VFW and the Cambridge Moose. Jim loved playing softball. He was an outstanding athlete and often thought of as one of the best softball players in the Guernsey County and surrounding areas during his prime. After his softball days, he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies.
Jim was the life of any party. He would say in jest “The shy guy that I am…” followed by his jolly laugh. His voice and laughter would carry a great distance and would make you smile. He had a big heart and a caring soul. He deeply loved his family, his friends, and his pets. It was obvious from the huge turnout at his benefit that everyone loved him right back. There was hardly a place to stand and a great time was had by all, especially Jim. This social butterfly now has his angel wings. He will be greatly missed!
Special thanks to those who lifted Jim’s spirits and gave him comfort in any way. Your kindness and support has been overwhelming. Thank you for the love and prayers. May you all be blessed!
Visitation will be will be held Saturday (June 16, 2018) from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, with services to follow. Pastor Carol Touvell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Hospice of Guernsey, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge, Ohio 43725.
