Margaret A. “Maggie” Bates, 87, Byesville, passed away Saturday (July 13, 2019) at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born February 4, 1932 in Noble County, and was the daughter of the late Earl and Beulah (Fogle) Wheeler.
Maggie retired from Hamilton Beach after several years of service. She also worked for the former Island Aseptics.
Maggie loved gardening, puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren, especially her time spent with her great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Bates, whom she married April 25, 1987, and passed away May 4, 2008; her sisters, Wanda Pitts, Ruthie Wheeler, Virginia Woodford, and infant sister, Nancy Wheeler; brothers, Ronald, and Earl Wheeler Jr.; and a granddaughter Stephanie.
Surviving Maggie are her daughter, Alice (Paul) Hulik, Wisconsin; sons, Jim (Shirley) Haga, Wharton, Texas, and Gary (Julie) Haga of Byesville; a brother, Gilbert (Judy) Wheeler of Caldwell; a sister, Nellie Fredrickson of Caldwell, 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Black-Epperson Funeral Home in Byesville, where services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
