Marilyn Jean (Pontius) Black, 88, of Cambridge passed away Monday (July 30, 2018) at her daughter’s home.
She was born April 5, 1930 in Cambridge and was the daughter of the late Carl and Mildred (Davidson) Pontius.
Marilyn was a homemaker, a graduate of Cambridge High School, and formerly attended Derwent United Methodist Church. She was a life member of Cambridge VFW #2901, loved bingo, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed listening to the music of Jim Nabors, Lawrence Welk and Dean Martin. She was also a fan of Jerry Lewis and his telethon.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jackie O. Black whom she married March 8, 1950 and passed away in 1995; one son James Black; sister-in-law Mary Lou Pontius and an infant sister.
She is survived by three sons, Terry (Sandy) Milner of Caldwell, Jack “Butch” Black Jr. of Mt. Vernon and Kevin Black of Cambridge; three daughters, Barbara (Sonny) Stafford of Derwent, Debra Black of Cambridge and Nanette (Forrest) Gano of Kimbolton; one brother Donald Pontius of Cambridge; nineteen grandchildren including Emily Barnett whom she raised from birth; twenty eight great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Ruth Black.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Nancy Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
