Albert Howard “Ab” Campbell Jr., 89, of Byesville, passed away Friday May 17, 2019 at the home of his daughter, surrounded by family.
He was born April 18, 1930 in Carrollton, Ohio, the son of the late Albert H. and Florence A. Ringler Campbell Sr.
Albert began working at Cambridge Glass at a young age (12-14), carrying out slag to be dumped. In the early 50’s, he worked for Universal Pottery, and then went to work for the former Phillips Products Company for the next 25 years until their shutdown in the 1980’s.
Albert had many hobbies, and passions. He loved digging for, and collecting old bottles, which he would take to antique bottle shows into many states. He enjoyed going to auctions, flea markets, and yard sales where he met many people, and friends along the way, which started friendships that spanned 30 years. He set up every weekend at Rinky Dink Flea Market for 35 years, and had a beloved family that loved him there. Albert visited the libraries often, reading and collecting books on the civil war, and other hobbies. He had many wonderful library friends who helped him with his books.
Albert will be missed by many friends, and comrades from his travels, and collecting days.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Ann (Maldotti) Campbell, whom he married on January 19, 1952, and passed away in 201; a son, Albert “Howie” Campbell; a daughter, Catherine Chalfant.
Albert is survived by a son, Lee (Karen) Campbell of Byesville; a daughter, Lynn Wray of Lore Cit; grandchildren, Justin Miracle, Anthony (Tina) Wray, Dominic (Amy) Wray, Amy (Jerry) McDonald, Lee (Shawna) Campbell Jr., Toni Chalfant, Walter (Sandy) Chalfant, and Timothy Campbell; a brother, Carl Eugene (Carol) Campbell of Cambridge;14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and several nieces, and nephews.
Graveside memorial services will be held at a later day, and will appear in the Daily Jeffersonian.
