Betty Nichols went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday (April 6, 2020) at the age of 97 years young.
She was born October 22, 1922 in Cambridge to the late Walter and Naomi (King) Hammond.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, George “Ted” Nichols and brothers, Jim, Don and Howard Hammond.
Betty was a 1940 graduate of Byesville High School and after raising her family became a successful realtor for several years. She and Ted retired to a small farm near Salesville and enjoyed over 20 years there before moving back to town. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by four children, Larry (Yoshi) Nichols, Ken (Marlene) Nichols, Ted (Karen) Nichols, and Colleen (Rich) Wallace; eight grandchildren, George (Leslie) Nichols, Linda Nichols, Mark (Kristy) Nichols, Kendra (Brad) Soucie, Kara Nichols, Jared (Leanne) Nichols, Kelly (Viktor) Laza, and Jennifer (Terry) Moore; fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
So many people were a true blessing to Betty in her later years. Special niece, Mary Jane Jerles, special neighbors she considered family, Joe and Lolly Ravak, her church family, special life-long friends, Charlotte Ables and Marjorie Palmer and so many others who were faithful to encourage, visit, call and send cards, people her family will never forget or be able to repay. Her wonderful, infectious laughter has been silenced on this earth but she will be remembered by all those who knew her as a woman who lived to share God’s love and who found joy in the journey, even the most difficult parts.
There will be no calling hours in observance of covid 19 guidelines.
A graveside service will be held for family and close friends at Greenwood Cemetery Monday (April 13th) at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Rost officiating.
You may show your support from your vehicle or join us in observing safe distancing at the graveside.
Betty’s wishes were that in lieu of flowers please donate to a Christian charity of your choice. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
