Cheryle D. (McClelland) Shivers

Cheryle D. (McClelland) Shivers, 75, of Byesville, passed away Tuesday (July 19, 2022) at Embassy of Cambridge after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born January 29, 1947 in Zanesville, daughter of the late Joseph McClelland and Germaine (Durben) McClelland Schwoerer.

A 1964 graduate of Valley Local High School, Cheryle retired as the registrar for IRP – Lockheed Martin.  She had also attended Cambridge Beauty College and was a licensed cosmetologist.

Cheryle was a member of the Byesville First Baptist Church. 

She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, watching old Westerns and sitcoms of the 50’s and 60’s, listening to Elvis, and working word search and crossword puzzles as well as adult coloring books.  She was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes football team and the Atlanta Braves.  She loved attending her daughter’s sporting events, and later on, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Russell McClelland and Jody McClelland; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Arnold.

She is survived by her husband of almost fifty-seven years, William I. Shivers, whom she married August 7, 1965; two daughters, Billie Jo (Susan) Spieler of Pittsburgh and Jennie (Tom) Campbell of Cambridge; her grandchildren, Larry Weldon Armes of Campbell OH, Stephen Eric Arnold of Pittsburgh, and Rylee Darlene Campbell of Cambridge; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chip McClelland of Cambridge and Joseph McClelland; several nieces and nephews; her best friends, Steve and Bernice Klingensmith of Cambridge; and her beloved beagle, Baylee.

Private graveside services will be held for the family.  Pastor Larry Buckey will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Cheryle’s name be made to one of the following organizations: 1) The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue – 16th Floor, New York NY 10001; or 2) Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
