Donald Lee Nicholson Sr., 88, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday (April 8, 2021) at Cambridge Care & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born November 20, 1932 in Cambridge the son of the late Raymond T. and Elma (Cater) Nicholson.
Mr. Nicholson was a heavy equipment operator for RTG - Rossiter; he was also a sub-contracting welder for Columbia Gas. He was a 1951 graduate of Cambridge High School, a member of Cambridge Old Baptist Church, American Legion post #84 and the Guernsey County Veterans Council, and a U.S. Army veteran. Don enjoyed welding and fabricating.
In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Alma Nicholson; four brothers, Glen, Ben, Ernest and John; a grandson, Ray Nicholson II.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marylin J. (Simmons) Nicholson whom he married January 18, 1960; three sons, Donald (Darlene) Nicholson Jr. of Byesville, Raymond (Tressa) Nicholson of Senecaville and Robert (Tracy) Nicholson of Byesville; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Eddy) Towe, Jarred, Jenna,Trisha, Sarah, Emily and Joseph Nicholson; four great grandchildren, Bronx Towe, Cayden Nicholson, Samuel and Xavier; two sisters, Evelyn Weaver of Byesville and Shirley Miles of Cambridge; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Evangelist Mark Beros officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
