Donald L. Smith, 75, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Thursday (June 22, 2023) at Genesis Hospital, Zanesville, surrounded by his entire family.
He was born February 22, 1948 in New Castle PA, son of the late Donald “Bud” Smith and Vona (Johns) Smith.
Donald earned his associate’s degree from Penn State and his RN nursing degree from Ohio University. He had worked at NCR for many years and later worked as an RN with Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, retiring in 2006.
He attended the First Church of the Nazarene of Cambridge.
Donald was a US Navy veteran, having served from 1966 to 1969. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his service and numerous other commendations.
He enjoyed going to the Amish country and to Pigeon Forge with his camping buddies. He was quite the outdoorsman with a love for camping, hiking, fishing, and canoeing. Most of all, Donald was a family man and cherished the time he spent with them and his beloved wife, Beverly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Edna Knight, who helped to raise him.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of thirty-five years, Beverly (Harper) Smith, whom he married on June 18, 1988; his children, Melissa (John) Bowling of Marietta, Jeanette Smith of West Middlesex PA, Danny (Delila) Schupbach of Ashland, Carol Cordray of West Middlesex PA, and Jodi (Matt) Singleton of Senecaville; his grandchildren, Devon (Ally), Carter, Taylor, Rowan, Kylee (Micah), Hannah, Joshua, Skylar, Jaden, Karrah, and Ethan; and his dog, Gracie.
Visitation will be held Monday (June 26, 2023) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, Cambridge.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday (June 27, 2023) at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, Cambridge, with Pastor Brandon Moore officiating.
Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
