Donna Elaine (Lisle) Gadd

Donna Elaine Lisle Gadd, 84, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Susan, on Friday (April 7, 2023) surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 1, 1938, in Byesville, Ohio.  She graduated with honors from Byesville High School in 1956 as the salutatorian of her class.  She went on to Akron City Hospital having earned a full scholarship. She completed her degree in Nursing from Akron City Hospital in 1959.  Then, she married her high school sweetheart, James Richard Gadd, on September 20, 1959. Later, she graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gardner-Webb University. 

Her lifetime commitment to nursing and health care was exceptional.  During her 50-plus-year career, she worked at Guernsey Memorial Hospital, Guernsey County Health Department, taught night school at the Guernsey-Noble Vocational School, volunteered as Meadowbrook High School Band nurse for 8 years, and retired from Guernsey Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio in 1985.

Donna and Jim moved to Charlotte, NC in 1985. She worked at Mercy Hospital and Mercy South in various capacities, including staff nurse, infection control, case manager, and utilization review. She then worked as a case manager at Hunter Woods Retirement Center before she retired. Throughout her lifetime, Donna volunteered at school and church as a first responder and finally, with reluctance, did not renew her nursing license at age 75.

Donna is survived by her four children: son, James Richard (Sharon) Gadd, Jr. of Albemarle NC; son, David Allen (Robin) Gadd Sr. of Concord NC; daughter, Sonja Rene’ Gadd of Mt. Pleasant NC; and daughter, Susan Gadd (Jack) Williams of Beaufort NC; a sister, Patricia (Ronald) Black of Concord NC; brothers-in-law;  Walter Wickem and Allen (Connie) Hahn of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and special cousins.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Leona Lisle; her beloved husband, James Richard Gadd, Sr.; and a sister, Deanna Jean (Lisle) Wickem.

Visitation will be held Saturday (April 15, 2023) from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Byesville Assembly of God Church (102 S 7th Street, Byesville), where funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. with Lieutenant Colonel, Gregory Black, retd. officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.

We praise God and thank Him for every day we shared with our beloved Mom, and we rejoice in knowing that she is with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and we will join her one day in Heaven.
