Doris (Secrest) Chalfant

Doris (Secrest) Chalfant, 81, of Byesville passed away Thursday (January 16, 2020) at SEORMC.

She was born July 20, 1938 in Cumberland and was the daughter of the late Edward and Rosa (Green) Secrest.

Doris retired from March Electric after 30 years of service, and was a member of Main Ave. United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, traveling and gambling, and was a member of Byesville VFW #3760.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Peck" Chalfant whom she married December 25, 1974 and passed away November 8, 2007; three grandsons, Jerry Robert Blackstone Jr., Robert Harold Blackstone and James Douglas Kinnen; three sons-in-law, Jerry Blackstone, Robert Lashley and Neil Ansberry; one granddaughter Jodie Lynn Lashley; one step granddaughter Angela Chalfant; two sisters Ethel Norman and Donna Everly; a twin brother Ed Secrest.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathie Lashley of Buffalo, Alice Blackstone of Byesville and Debbie (Randy Spratt) Ansberry of Byesville; two sons, James Kinnen of Caldwell and John (Pam) Kinnen of Caldwell; one step-daughter Patricia Chalfant of Zanesville; two step-sons, Walter Chalfant of Byesville and Bill Chalfant of Byesville; eleven grandchildren, Doris Johnson, Sarah Lashley, Debbie (Paul) Patterson, Beverly Ansberry, Amanda (Matt) Morris, Tiffany Ansberry, Melissa Walker, LaShawna (Shawn) Secrest, Caressa (Gary) Wade, Jon (Mary Ann) Kinnen and Dustin (Shanley) Kinnen; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating.  Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.
