Ernest Rogers Obituary


Ernest B. “Ernie” Rogers, 86, of Byesville passed away Friday (April 27, 2018) at his home.

He was born July 18, 1931 in Byesville and was the son of the late Thomas C. and Goldia (Bartholow) Rogers.

Mr. Rogers was a graduate of Community High School; following high school Ernie attended Texas State Barber College in Houston, TX and Reggis La Mar Barber College in Akron.  He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War where he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ernie owned and operated Rogers Barber Shop in Byesville for many years.  He was also employed at Champion Spark Plug for 26 ½ years before retiring in 1992.  As a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Ernie was a youth leader, a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Chairman of the Board.  He was a member of Byesville Village Council for 6 years, UAW, Ohio State Board of Barbers Union, Chairman of Guernsey County Park Commissioners, Community Improvement Corporation in Cambridge, and a former member of Byesville Board of Trade.  Ernie was also a Republican Central Committeeman.

He is survived by his wife of sixty six years Yvonne (Davis) Rogers whom he married October 6, 1951; one son Rex M. (Sarah) Rogers of Alto, MI; one daughter Rhonda (Curtiss) Monroe of Centerville; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Joe) Drouillard, Eric (Danielle) Rogers, Andrew (Kristen) Rogers, Adam (Morgan) Rogers, Melissa Monroe, Matthew (Amy) Monroe, Marianne Monroe; great grandchildren, Brodie, Luke, and Jordan Drouillard, Alex Rogers, Jackson and Madelyn Rogers, James and Ethan Rogers, Harley, Lyla, and Greyson Monroe, Garrett and Ryan Hruzak, and Peyton Phizacklea; one sister Charlotte Abels; two sisters in law, Joan Fehrman and Marlene Fehrman; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Rost officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
