Jacob M. “Jake” Davis, 80, of Byesville, passed away Wednesday (April 14, 2021) at SEORMC.
He was born January 28, 1941 in Cambridge, son of the late Francis M and Mary E. (Endly) Davis.
Jake was a mail carrier in Byesville for several years, retiring in 1999. He had previously worked at Phillips Products, and was a U.S. Marine veteran having served 7 ½ years. He was a well known Byesville historian, gave presentations, lectures and tours of the Byesville Scenic Railroad and surrounding coal mines. He was a 1958 graduate of Byesville High School.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Gloria Oakley.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Louise (Midcap) Davis whom he married June 2, 1995; one son Tyrone (Brandi) Davis of Thornville; one step-son William (Ruthie) Erlewine of Wick, WV and Kristina (Andrew) Tonn of Guatemala City, Guatemala; eight grandchildren, Cole and Reagan Davis, Matthew, Cristin, Winter and Willow Erlewine, Henry and Bram Tonn; two great grandchildren, Addison and Elise.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Evangelists Woody Biggs and Mark Beros officiating.
