Obituary

James J. “Jim” Gombeda, 77, of Cambridge, passed away Thursday October 28, 2021 at SEORMC in Cambridge.

He was born July 23, 1944 in Cambridge, Ohio, the son of the late George and Mary Ann Barlock Gombeda.

Jim was a self – employed mechanic, and car restorer for 52 years. He started Southgate Automotive in Cambridge many years ago, a business Jim would   rename the Beetle Barn, and move the business to where it still operates today. Jim was a 1962 graduate of Byesville High School, a veteran of the National Guard, and Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, and president of his motorcycle club, The Golden Dragons.

He enjoyed hunting, fall gun shoots at his brothers farm, fishing, riding his Harley,  and above all spending time with his grandchildren. Jim was a master of all trades, whether it was building trikes, working on his house, or teaching his grandsons how to fix VW’s.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Barbara Edwards, and Marcie Villars, 7 brothers, Francis, Ronald, John, Dave, Michael, Donald, and Philip Gombeda, brother-in-law, Jack Edwards, and sister-in-law, Alice Gombeda.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Teresa M. (Minyo) Gombeda, whom he married on June 9, 1973, a daughter, Kimberly Gombeda, Cambridge, grandsons, Micheal (Autumn) Kennedy, Bryon and Joseph Kennedy, a brother, Daniel “Mud” Gombeda, Byesville, sisters-in-law, Katherine, Marlene, Teresa, and Kim Gombeda, Suzanne Minyo Thomas, and MaryAnn (Scott) Collins, brother-in-law, Jerry (Janet) Minyo, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home in Byesville, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Cambridge, with Fr Robert Borer and Fr Paul Hrezo officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with the Guernsey County Veterans Council providing military services.
