John Alexander Morton, 86, of Cambridge passed away Wednesday (March 24, 2021) at his home.
He was born, August 19, 1934 in Londonderry, son of the late John A. and Martha A. (Campbell) Morton.
John retired in 1985 from Guernsey Muskingum Electric. He was a 1952 graduate of Madison High School, a 40 year member of Eagles Aerie #386, and an Army veteran having served during 1956-1963. John coached for many years in local youth leagues, was head coach of the 1980 Cambridge Little League which captured State Championship. He was an avid fisherman, was on several bowling leagues and did achieve a perfect game of 300; he enjoyed golfing, and scored a hole in one!
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Delores (Marlatt) Morton whom he married July 9, 1960 and passed away April 21, 2006; three brothers, Dwaine, Herman and Hobart; one sister Dorothy Thomas.
He is survived by one son John (Dawna) Morton of Cambridge; two daughters, Debra Morton of Cambridge and Marla (Dan) Jennings of Senecaville; grandchildren, Alena Jennings (fiancé Tyler Walters) of Byesville, Jonathan (Racheal) Morton, stationed at Fort Polk, LA, Kyle Jennings of Senecaville and Dawson Morton of Cambridge; one sister, Isabelle Starr of Cambridge; one brother Ralph (Judy) Morton of Woodsfield; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Sturman Moore officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
