Joseph Oliver Obituary

Joseph W. “Bill” Oliver, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday (January 12, 2021) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 9, 1931 in Zanesville and was the son of the late Wilbur and Mary (Bates) Oliver of Summerfield.

Bill worked for the former RCA, the Ohio Ferro Alloy for 21 years and retired from the Fabri-Form Company in 1993. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served 13 months in Korea where he was involved in the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge.

He was a member of the Free Masons, Olive Lodge #210 and Scottish Rite, 32 degree, Cambridge.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Jean A. (Archer) Oliver whom he married October 26, 1954 and passed away May 26, 1991; a brother, Paul Oliver; and infant sister, Gladys Oliver; and a great grandson Sgt. Jorden Thomas Williams.

He is survived by two daughters, Dixie (Sam) Williams of Byesville and Vickie (Dick) Smith of Cambridge; a son Joe (Linda) Oliver of Byesville; a brother, Jim Oliver of Summerfield; four grandchildren, Sam(Stephanie) Williams, Brandon (Ashley) Smith, Amanda (Jason) Jeffery and Tyler (Kaci) Oliver; five great grandchildren, Hunter Williams, Emma and Piper Jeffery, and Noah and Elizabeth Mitchell.  He leaves numerous friends from Tom’s Barber Shop and Byesville McDonald’s Coffee Club.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital or the disabled veterans.  He always gave to the children and veterans.

A special thank you to the nurse’s and support staff at SEORMC, 3rd floor.

Private services were held Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery with Evangelist Mark Beros officiating.
