Juanita Graham Obituary

Juanita E. (Guiler) Graham, age 91, of Senecaville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (January 11, 2024).

She was born June 15, 1932 in Summerfield, daughter of the late Howard and Clara Guiler.  At the age of 2 years, she and her family moved to a farm north of Sarahsville, where she resided and worked on the farm until she married.  Juanita graduated from Sarahsville High School in 1949, having met her future husband there.

On June 14, 1953, she married William (Gene) Graham, and together they had five children.  Mrs. Graham was a homemaker until her children grew older.  She then went to work for “Schumacher’s Market” in Senecaville, where she was head cashier for 10 years.  Later, she became a daycare provider at the “Joyland Daycare Center” in Byesville.  She enjoyed caring for the children each day, and the children loved “Miss Juanita.”  After working there for about a decade, the flood of 1998 forced the closure of the center, much to her dismay.  Juanita worked for the Board of Elections as a poll worker in Senecaville for many years during that time, also.

Mrs. Graham, along with her husband Gene and five children, began attending services at “Stop Nine Church of Christ” in Byesville in the year 1970.  They became active members of the church with Gene serving as a deacon, and Juanita and Gene together teaching children’s Bible classes on Sunday morning.  They greeted visitors at the door and cleaned the church buses, along with their children.  She and Gene also helped clean the church building, while Juanita made the communion bread faithfully, every week for Sunday morning services for 32 years.  She also prepared food for the funeral dinners hosted by the church.

Juanita enjoyed cooking, baking, babysitting, playing Scrabble, and bowling.   She and Gene together enjoyed gardening, canning, raspberry-picking, Jigsaw puzzles, and going for walks.  One of their favorite hobbies/interests was housing purple martins and watching them grow their young.  They also enjoyed watching NASCAR races together, as well as “Ohio State Buckeyes” football games.  In their earlier years, they held card parties at their home and played Euchre with family and friends.

Mrs. Graham spent most of her time in the kitchen, baking up sweet treats for her family and others.  She was well-known for her homemade bread, pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, nut rolls, cookies, and buckeyes, just to name a few.  Everybody was welcome at Juanita’s home, and she insisted on feeding anybody who stopped by for any reason.  Nobody ever left hungry!

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Graham was preceded in death by her husband, William “Gene” Graham - they were blessed with 53 years together, before Gene’s passing in August 2006; a grandson, David Graham; three sisters, Eileen Williams, Beatrice Frank, and Lela Mae Zaleha; and three brothers, Lester Guiler, Myron Guiler, and Marvin Guiler.

Family meant everything to Juanita, and she took pride in the raising of their five children.  She is survived by four sons: Gregory (Tammy) Graham of Senecaville, Gary (Connie) Graham of Cambridge, Kirby (Cheryl) Graham of Senecaville, and Rick (Robin) Graham of Byesville; and a daughter, Kathy (Jeff) Gann of Senecaville; seventeen grandchildren: Dan and Darren Graham, Nicole Hester, Jeremy, Jacob, and Jason Graham, Hunter Shoemake, Amy (Graham) Valentine, Kristen (Graham) Ferraco, and Kaleb Graham, Erica (Gann) Zifzal, Kody and Isaac Gann, Tyler Graham, Bria (Graham) Hunt, Baylee (Graham) Groves, and Brilee Graham; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; as well as her special friends: Don and Janet Hendershot, and Leona Powell.  Juanita was well loved by so many in the church and the community; she will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held Wednesday (January 17, 2024) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stop Nine Church of Christ in Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Evangelists Woody Biggs and Mark Beros officiating.

Burial will follow at Senecaville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and keeping with Juanita’s wishes, memorial contributions may be made to the Senecaville Volunteer Fire Department.
