Obituary

Karen Ann (Alt) Chumney, 60, of Lore City, passed away Tuesday (August 15, 2023) at her home, following a long battle with MS having been diagnosed in 1981.  Her adult life was filled with many hardships and struggles, but she never wavered in her faith and positive outlook on life – she always saw the good in others, and you felt lucky to have known her.

She was born May 26, 1963 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Robert J. Alt and Pauline Patricia (Liptok) Alt.

A 1981 graduate of Guernsey Central Catholic, Karen had worked for twenty-four years as a clerk for the United States Post Office in Lore City.

She enjoyed working in her yard, mowing, and collecting antiques.  She loved animals, especially horses.  She cherished the long walks she took with her mother over the years.

Karen was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lore City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by numerous aunts and uncles.

Karen is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Gary Chumney, whom she married August 23, 1986; a brother, Kevin (Debbie) Alt of Salesville; her in-laws, Ervin and Betty Chumney, Deb and Pat St. Clair, Sheri and Danny Miller, Cindy and Paul Hixson, Richard and LizAnne Chumney, and Kristi and Mark Fleisher; numerous nieces & nephews, including Traci (Trevor) McQuain and Jamie (Josh) Oakley; and her great-nieces & great-nephews, Jonathan, Jaycie, and Sammie.

Gary and his family want to recognize all the people who helped Karen during her illness, especially during the last three years.  With their help and support, Karen was able to remain in her home and live her life on her terms – words of appreciation are not enough.

Visitation will be held Friday (August 18, 2023) from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Lore City, where a Mass of Christian burial will follow at 1 p.m. with Father Nicholas Ginnetti officiating.

Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Lore City.

As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Karen’s name to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
