Martha Kovalchik Obituary

Martha Ann (Lisak) Kovalchik, age 82, of Pleasant City, OH passed away Easter Sunday (April 17, 2022) at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, OH due to complications associated with cancer.

She was born to the late George and Anna (Slifko) Lisak on August 4, 1939, in Pleasant City where she resided for the remainder of her life.

A 1957 graduate of Pleasant City High School, Martha participated in several activities enjoying chorus and Glee Club most. Following graduation, Martha started work at Kresge’s five-and-dime department store and ended by retiring from Champion Spark Plug in 1988 after thirty years of service.

She will be remembered as a kind and giving person to all that knew her; always placing another’s needs before her own. Which carried over as a devoted and lifelong member of St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church. Martha enjoyed the simple things in life, like word find, puzzles, coloring with crayons, watching tv, reading (especially newspapers and magazines) and corresponding with her many acquaintances by phone and post. Lastly, she looked forward to celebrating the holidays, with Easter being her favorite.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Emil E. Kovalchik (November 10, 2008), whom she married August 1, 1959. Also deceased are her two sisters: Thelma Marie Gress (2022) and Sarah Jean Robinson (2020).

Left to cherish and remember her presence is her only child Gary E. Kovalchik, Major, United States Air Force, retired of Pleasant City. Along with several of her nieces (Kelly Mallett of Byesville and Jessica Lofton of KY), nephews (Kevin King of Pleasant City, Greg King of FL, Kyle King of GA, and Jason Robinson of Byesville), cousins and closest friends.

Graveside services and burial at St. Michael's Byzantine Cemetery will be observed on April 22, 2022, at 1 p.m., with Father Paul Hrezo officiating. No formal calling hours will transpire.  Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, is handling arrangements.
