Mordy L. Hunter, 80, of Byesville, went to fish in the Golden Pond on Friday (June 16, 2023).
He was born December 26, 1942 in Easton, son of the late James Hunter and Marcella (Stufflebeam) Hunter Touville.
Mordy attended Byesville High School. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his life with Cravat Coal. He finished his career as a mine inspector for twenty-eight years. He then retired in 2000 from ODNR.
Mordy was a US Navy veteran, having served from 1963 to 1967. He was a member of the Byesville VFW Post 3760 and a 32nd degree Mason.
He loved fishing, especially for bass and crappie, with his favorite fishing spot being Piedmont Lake. He enjoyed traveling and loved the outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first love and wife, Carolyn (Secrest) Hunter, who passed away February 20, 1986. Also deceased is a brother, Jim Hunter; a son-in-law, Wally Savage; and his granddaughter and special angel, Amanda Savage.
He is survived by two daughters, Kim Savage of Senecaville and Jennifer (Chad) Colvin of Freeport; his companion of twenty years, Marjorie (Olden) Province, and Marjorie’s son, Louie (Tammy) Province; a sister, Joyce “Sunshine” Hunter Everett of Nashville; several grandchildren & great-grandchildren; his special friends, George (Autumn) Thompson and Eddie Wears, Danny Gatrell; and lots of fishing buddies.
Visitation will be held Wednesday (June 21, 2023) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Evan. Woody Biggs officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
