Neil E. Bonar, 92, of Byesville, died Friday (June 17, 2022) at his home.
He was born April 14, 1930 in Old Fairfield IN, son of the late Carl Bonar and Ellen (Whatler) Bonar.
Neil came to the Byesville area in 1965 while working for Fisher Construction when Interstate 70 was built. He retired from Central Ohio Coal Company in 1992, finishing out a career of running a bulldozer for forty-two years.
He was a former member of Masonic Lodge 654 of Byesville and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 386 of Cambridge. He had attended Old Washington United Methodist Church.
Neil enjoyed hunting and fishing, and gathering mushrooms in the spring. He loved to tell jokes and pull pranks on his many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella V. “Sally” (Gray) Bonar, who died May 5, 2021. They were married December 19, 1969. Also deceased is a brother, Richard Bonar; a sister, Martha H. Brutton; and a special aunt, Georgia Harris.
He is survived by a son, David C. (Denise) Bonar of Trinity AL; a daughter, Beverly Ann (Tom) Thompson of Wayne Lakes; four grandsons, Christopher Bonar, Curtis Bonar, Michael Waymare, and Todd Waymare; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and two special cousins, Judy Lackey and Shirley Sexton both of Liberty IN.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Shrivers Hospice and his caregiver, Rene Clipner for the exceptional care given to Neil.
Visitation will be held Tuesday (June 21, 2022) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Clayton Coffey and Evang. Mark Beros officiating.
Burial will be at Old Washington Cemetery.
