Rose Matheny Obituary

Rose Lee (Brister) Matheny, 76, of Cambridge, passed away Tuesday (March 14, 2023) at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 2, 1946 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Oscar J. Brister and Lucille O. (Brownfield) Brister.

A 1964 graduate of Old Washington High School, Rose retired from Co-Pac of Cambridge.  She had also worked at NCR for several years.

Rose was a member of the Stop 9 Church of Christ.

She enjoyed taking long rides with her husband, Skip, and going to Kirke’s in St. Clairsville for ice cream.  Rose loved the “Sister Days” she spent with her four sisters over the years.  She also enjoyed shopping and archery.  Rose cherished family gatherings and watching her grandchildren’s sporting events.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Floyd Brister, James Stanley Brister, and an infant brother; two infant sisters; and a brother-in-law, Emil Selock.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis H. “Skip” Matheny II, whom she married May 28, 1977; her children, Robert D. Reynolds II of Atlanta GA, Jason Matheny and her former daughter-in-law Missy Kiggans, both of Byesville, and Michelle (Clyde) Hedgepeth of Philadelphia PA; four sisters, Janet Selock of Cambridge, Norma (Larry) Jones of Byesville, JoAnn (Gerald) Snode of Byesville, and June Lewis of Cambridge; her grandchildren,  Maya Reynolds, Devon Reynolds, Jack Reynolds, Kianna Matheny, Karlee (Tori) Wolverton, Courtney Stangl, and Hayley Hedgepeth; two great-grandchildren, Mauriannah and Jaylann Rose; numerous nieces & nephews; and special friends, Kenny and Bev Choma of Cambridge.

Visitation will be held Saturday (March 18, 2023) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. with Evan. Woody Biggs officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.

As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Rose’s name be made to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
