Obituary

Rosezelma Jean (Thatcher) Williams, 87, of Pleasant City, entered into her eternal home, through the gates of Heaven, on June 2, 2021 at 10:22 p.m. surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 13, 1934 in her childhood home in Cambridge, daughter of the late Thomas Clark and Velma Mae (Shaw) Thatcher.

Rosezelma was a tender-loving Nurse’s Aide at St. Francis Community Hospital in Cambridge for several years, a Sunday school teacher and a beloved cook with the Rolling Hills Local School District for 25 years.  She was a faithful member of the Pleasant City United Methodist Church and the Guernsey County and Robert T. Secrest Senior Citizens Centers.

She cherished very deeply spending time with her family and always loved to make you laugh or smile.  She loved flowers, humming birds, collecting jewelry, hats and glassware (auctions), but most of all country western shows, Elvis Presley and the music of Daniel O’Donnell.  She was a homemaker, who loved cooking and baking sweets from scratch, and shopping trips with her girls.  Rosezelma also had a loving heart for animals (especially “Baby” and “Oreo”).

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the Love of her life, husband John R. Williams whom she married August 17, 1962 and passed away August 3, 1991; a baby sister Betty Jane; a brother Donald C. Thatcher; a half-brother Richard C. Scott; and beloved son Roger C. McFarland.

She will be deeply missed by her son Randy (Judy) McFarland of Cambridge; a loving daughter and lifelong caregiver Karen S. (Scott) Sherman of the home; a loving son Bill (Karyn) Williams of Byesville; a brother Delbert (Sally) Thatcher of Cambridge; niece Deborah J. Charleston of Byesville; special granddaughters and grandsons, Kayla (Baltazar) De La Cruz Lopez of Morris Plains, NJ, Kylee (Jeremy) Quinn of Byesville, Johnny (Kristin) Sherman of Grove City; special great granddaughter Ellie Shea Quinn; many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends unmentioned.

The Sherman and Williams’ families would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Guernsey for the extraordinary care and support they provided to Rosezelma throughout her final days, especially Mary Ruth Birch and Kyla Eubanks; the palliative care and cancer team of SEORMC , Dr. Elaine Beed, NP Amber West, special in hospital palliative care NP Candi;   MD’s, Michael Sarap and Clark Leslie) as well as her primary care physician Earl Conway Jr. and NP Dylan Eubanks.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking for memorial contributions to be made in Rosezelma’s honor to the Guernsey County Cancer Society, 937 Wheeling Ave., Suite 205, Cambridge, Ohio  43725, Hospice of Guernsey, P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge, Ohio  43725 or Pleasant City U.M.C, P.O. Box 256, Pleasant City, Ohio  43772.

No calling hours will be observed. A graveside burial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Randy Mercer officiating.
